The main recretional pursuit that attracts travellers to Bhutan is trekking. Northern Bhutan and even sub tropical parts offer great scope for trekking as most of Bhutan's landscape is covered with dense forests, hills, mountains and high altitude pastures make up most of the country and some of these remote areas are accessible on foot or horse back. All treks climb up and down hills passing through various vegetation zones with a great variety of trees and very few villages but views of snowcapped peaks and forested hillsides stretching to eternity.
Conditions for Trekking:
Visitors wishing to trek in Bhutan must take note of and observe the following conditions:
a. Collection of all relevant information (from the agent handling the trip) on the trekking route, elevation of passes and campsites, type of clothing items required and other necessities.
b. Comprehensive medical check up at home.
c. All trekking arrangements must be made with ABC, Tours and Treks who have the official authorization from Tourim Council Board, Royal Government of Bhutan to operate trekking programmes in Bhutan. ABC has been selected on basis of our professional competence and resource base to conduct organised trekking tours in Bhutan.
d. To ensure a degree of safety to trekkers and proper handling of emergency situations, Tourism Council Board has made it mandatory for we provide one licensed Trekking guide to every group of trekkers. Apart from tour guiding and performing other normal functions of a trekking guide, ABC guides are trained in basic first aid and evacuation techniques.
e. While most of the trekking equipments and food provisions are supplied by ABC Tours and Treks, trekkers are advised to bring along the

• Sleeping bags
• Clothing items including gloves, warm socks, trekking boots or appropriate shoes, caps/hats etc.
• Supply of medicines.
